Michael Kane has worked more than 20 years as a community organiser in the Australian environmental movement. He’s had the privilege to work for Lock the Gate, Clean Air Queensland (which he founded), Solar Citizens, Farmers for Climate Action and currently the Mackay Conservation Group.
Community organising has consistently been at the heart of his campaigning. He finds it particularly rewarding to organise in conservative communities and has learned, “We have much in common with groups that haven’t traditionally allied with the environmental movement. Winning in a genuinely community-led campaign can be the sweetest victory of all!”
Michael is a COF2016 graduate and consistently draws upon his learnings and the networks built during his time in the program. “I found the mentoring and networking particularly valuable. I would highly recommend COF to new or experienced organisers who are keen to sharpen their skills or explore new organising models.”
